Why Go Camping?
Camping is an excellent way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It allows you to reconnect with nature, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the simplicity of the great outdoors. Plus, combining camping with a fitness bootcamp amplifies the benefits – you’ll return home feeling rejuvenated, stronger, and more relaxed. Having doubts, ask the guys who went for the inaugural bootcamp over the easter holidays.
What to Pack for Your Camping Adventure
Packing the right gear is crucial for a successful camping trip. Your tent is the centrepiece of your camping experience, providing shelter and a space to rest (This will most likely be provided by our host). Choose a tent that is easy to set up and provides adequate space for you and your camping companions. A sleeping bag suitable for the season’s temperatures will ensure you stay warm and comfortable at night. Additionally, a sleeping pad or air mattress adds an extra layer of comfort, insulating you from the ground.
Here is our recommended checklist.
Cooking in the great outdoors requires a bit of planning. You don’t need to worry about food as this will be sorted by our host. However, if you plan on going alone next time, a camping stove is essential for preparing hot meals, and a cooler will keep your food and drinks cold. Lighting is also important; a lantern or flashlight with extra batteries will help you navigate your campsite after dark. Comfortable seating, such as camping chairs, can enhance your outdoor relaxation time. Here is a FREE checklist you can use. KipMeFit Nature Hike _ Camp Travel Checklist
Essentials
When it comes to clothing, layering is key. Bring weather-appropriate clothing that you can easily adjust as temperatures change throughout the day. Since it’s a fitness bootcamp, pack comfortable workout clothes for your sessions. Sturdy hiking boots or sneakers are a must for outdoor activities, and don’t forget a hat and sunglasses for sun protection. Rain gear is also a good idea, just in case the weather takes a turn. August is a month of the short rains, come prepared.
Personal items like toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste and bathing soap are important), sunscreen, bug spray, and a first aid kit are essential for maintaining hygiene and safety. If you take any medications, be sure to bring those along as well. A reusable water bottle will help you stay hydrated throughout the trip. Check out the KipMeFit water bottle here.
Given the fitness focus of the bootcamp, consider bringing some fitness equipment like a yoga mat for stretching and exercises, resistance bands, and small dumbbells or kettlebells if space permits. These will be provided for by the gym but we don’t mind you bringing your own equipment.
The next time you go camping alone remember that food and cooking supplies are another crucial aspect. Pack non-perishable snacks like granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit for quick energy boosts. Easy-to-cook meals such as pasta, rice, and canned beans are convenient and filling. Don’t forget cooking utensils like pots, pans, and a spatula, as well as reusable plates and cutlery for eco-friendly dining.
Lastly, miscellaneous items such as a camera or smartphone to capture memories, books or magazines for downtime, and a notebook and pen to jot down thoughts or plans can add to the overall experience.

Setting Up Camp
Choosing the right campsite is the first step to a great camping experience. Our hosts will help you look for a flat, shaded area free from rocks and roots to pitch your tent. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, follow the instructions carefully to ensure your tent is stable and secure. Organize your gear so that essentials are easily accessible, and store non-essentials in your tent to keep your campsite tidy.
Familiarize yourself with the campsite’s rules and fire safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.
